Frequently asked questions
What are the limits of BMI?
BMI only compares weight with height. It does not measure body fat, muscle, bone density or where weight is carried, so it can be misleading for athletes, people with a lot of muscle, older adults and pregnant women. Use it as a rough guide, not a verdict.
What do the WHO categories mean?
Below 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to 24.9 normal weight, 25 to 29.9 overweight, 30 to 34.9 obese class I, 35 to 39.9 obese class II, and 40 or more obese class III. These are adult ranges.
Can I use it for children?
No. This calculator uses adult ranges and is not valid for children and teenagers, whose BMI is compared with growth charts for their age and sex. Nothing you enter leaves your browser.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. BMI Calculator runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is BMI Calculator really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
