Frequently asked questions
How is the PDF converted to grayscale?
Each page is rendered as an image at the resolution you pick, its colours are turned into grey by how bright they look, and the pages are put back into a new PDF of the same page size. This works on every PDF, whatever fonts or colour spaces it uses.
Will the text still be selectable?
No. Because the pages become images, text can no longer be selected, searched or copied. For printing or sharing that's fine; keep the original for editing.
What's the difference between grayscale and black & white?
Grayscale keeps every shade, so photos and charts still read well. Black & white turns each pixel pure black or white: smallest and sharpest for text documents, but photos lose detail.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser on your device and the file never leaves it.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Convert PDF to Grayscale runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
