How to use Audio to Text

  1. Add your audio

Drop in a recording or a video. It stays on your device.

  2. Choose model and language

Bigger models are more accurate but slower and download more. Leave the language on automatic if you're unsure.

  3. Download your transcript

Get plain text (TXT) and subtitles (SRT and VTT), each with timestamps where the format supports them.

Frequently asked questions

Is my audio uploaded for transcription?

No. The speech model downloads to your browser once, then is cached, and transcription runs entirely on your device. Your audio is never sent anywhere.

Which model size should I pick?

Tiny is the fastest and the smallest download, good for clear speech. Base is a balanced default. Small is the most accurate, especially for accents, noise or less common languages, but it downloads more and runs slower.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Audio to Text runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Audio to Text really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
