How to use Base64 Encode / Decode

  1. Pick a mode

Encode or decode text, turn a file into Base64 or a data URL, or turn Base64 back into a downloadable file.

  2. Add your input

Type, paste or choose a file. Switch on URL-safe output or 76-character line wrapping if you need them.

  3. Copy or download

Copy the result or download it. Decoded files get the right extension, detected from their contents.

Frequently asked questions

Does it handle emoji and accented characters?

Yes. Text is converted as UTF-8 before encoding and back after decoding, so characters like é, 日本語 and 😀 round-trip correctly.

What is URL-safe Base64?

It swaps + and / for - and _ and drops the = padding, so the result can be used in URLs and file names. Decoding accepts both styles automatically.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Base64 Encode / Decode runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Base64 Encode / Decode really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
