How to use URL Encode / Decode

  1. Choose encode or decode

Pick the action and the method: encodeURIComponent for a single value, encodeURI for a whole URL.

  2. Paste your text

The result updates as you type. Malformed % sequences are reported with their exact position.

  3. Copy it, or inspect a query string

Copy the result, or paste a URL into the query string parser to see every parameter decoded in a table.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between encodeURI and encodeURIComponent?

encodeURIComponent escapes every reserved character including / ? & = # and :, which is what you want for one query value. encodeURI keeps those characters so a complete URL stays valid.

Why does decoding say my text is malformed?

A % must be followed by two hex digits, and byte sequences like %E2%82 must form valid UTF-8. The error shows the position of the first problem so you can fix it.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. URL Encode / Decode runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is URL Encode / Decode really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
