How are the dominant colors chosen?

Pixels are sampled from the image and grouped by color with the median-cut method (the algorithm behind Color Thief). Each swatch is the average of a group, largest group first, and you get the same result every time for the same image.

What can I export the palette as?

Copy individual colors as HEX codes, or download the palette as a CSS file of custom properties (--color-1, --color-2, …) or as JSON with HEX and RGB values.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Color Palette Extractor runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
