Frequently asked questions
What happens to | characters and line breaks inside cells?
Pipes are escaped as \| so they don't split the cell, and line breaks inside a cell become <br>, which GitHub and most Markdown viewers show as a new line.
Can I convert an Excel file directly?
Yes. Open an .xlsx, .xls or .ods file and pick the sheet. Cells show the values Excel displays, including formula results. The file is read in your browser and never uploaded.
My data has no header row. What then?
Untick “First row is the header”. Markdown tables always need a header row, so the table gets an empty one and all your rows stay as data.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. CSV to Markdown Table runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is CSV to Markdown Table really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
