Frequently asked questions

What is PDF metadata?

Properties stored inside the file: title, author, subject, keywords, the apps that created and saved it, and the creation and modification dates. Viewers show them under document properties, and search engines often use the title.

Does “Remove all metadata” really remove everything?

It empties the document properties and deletes the XMP metadata stream, the second copy many apps write. The old values are not left behind in the file. Pages, text and images aren't changed; author names typed in comments or form fields stay.

Why is the XMP metadata removed when I save?

XMP keeps its own copy of the old title, author and dates, and many viewers trust it over the regular properties, so your edits might not show. Removing it makes your values the only ones. Files that must stay PDF/A compliant need XMP, so keep the original for archiving.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The properties are read and written in your browser on your device; the file never leaves it.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Edit PDF Metadata runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
