Frequently asked questions

Why is my GIF file so big?

GIF stores every frame as a full picture with up to 256 colours, so photos and crossfades add up quickly. Choose a smaller custom width, use fewer images, or turn the crossfade off for a much smaller file.

Why do the colours look slightly grainy?

The GIF format can hold only 256 colours per frame, so smooth gradients in photos are reduced to the closest colours. Each frame gets its own optimised palette to keep this as faint as possible.

Are my images uploaded to make the GIF?

No. The images are decoded and the GIF is encoded on your device, in a background worker of your browser, so nothing is uploaded and the page stays responsive.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?
