Frequently asked questions

Can I download the speech as an audio file?

No. This tool uses the voices built into your browser and device, and browsers only play them out loud; they can't save them to a file. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why there's no download.

Why are the available voices different on my phone and computer?

The voices come from your operating system and browser, so each device offers its own list. Install more voices in your system settings and they appear here after a reload.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Text to Speech runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Text to Speech really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
