Frequently asked questions

What is a Unix timestamp?

It is the number of seconds since 1 January 1970 00:00:00 UTC, known as the Unix epoch. It is the same everywhere in the world, regardless of time zone.

How does it tell seconds from milliseconds?

By size: values below 100 billion are read as seconds, below 100 trillion as milliseconds, and larger ones as microseconds. You can override the unit if a value is ambiguous.

Which time zone is used?

Results show your browser's local time zone and UTC. When converting a date to a timestamp you choose whether the date is local time or UTC. Everything is calculated in your browser.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Unix Timestamp Converter runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Unix Timestamp Converter really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
