Frequently asked questions

Which format should I choose?

MP3 plays on almost everything. M4A (AAC) suits iPhones and Apple apps, Opus gives the best sound at small sizes, OGG is common in games and Linux, and WAV or FLAC keep every detail for editing or archiving. FLAC is lossless but about half the size of WAV.

Does converting reduce audio quality?

Converting to WAV or FLAC adds no loss. Converting to MP3, M4A, OGG or Opus re-encodes the sound, so pick Standard or Best to keep it transparent. Converting a low-quality MP3 to FLAC won't bring back detail that was already lost.

Are my song titles and artist tags kept?

Yes. Title, artist, album and similar tags are copied to the new file when the format can store them. WAV keeps only basic tags, and embedded cover art is not carried over.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Audio Converter runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Audio Converter really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
