Is my password sent anywhere?
No. The check runs entirely in your browser and nothing is sent or saved. We also do not offer a breach lookup, because that would require sending part of your password.
How is the score calculated?
With zxcvbn, which looks for common passwords, names, keyboard patterns, dates, repeats and substitutions, then estimates how many guesses an attacker would need. Score 0 is very weak, 4 is very strong.
What do the crack times mean?
They are estimates for four attack types, from a throttled online login to an offline attack on a fast hash. Real times depend on how the service stores passwords.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Password Strength Checker runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
