How to use Hash Generator

  1. Add text or a file

Type or paste text, or choose a file. Large files are read in chunks so the page stays responsive.

  2. Read the hashes

MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 are calculated together. Switch between hex and Base64 output.

  3. Copy or verify

Copy a hash, or paste the hash you expect to see a check mark for the algorithm that matches.

Frequently asked questions

Which hash should I use?

Use SHA-256 or stronger for integrity checks and anything security related. MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security purposes but still common for checking downloads against a published checksum.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is read and hashed entirely in your browser. Files up to 1 GB are supported; very large files may be slow on low-memory devices.

How do I check a downloaded file against its checksum?

Choose the file, paste the checksum from the download page into the comparison box, and look for the check mark. The comparison accepts hex in any case or Base64.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Hash Generator runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Hash Generator really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
