Frequently asked questions

Is my camera or image uploaded?

No. The camera feed and images are decoded in your browser and never leave your device. Nothing is recorded.

Why can't it use my camera?

Your browser asks permission first. Click the camera icon in the address bar, allow access for this site and press Start camera again. On a phone the rear camera is used.

Is it safe to open scanned links?

Links are shown, never opened automatically, and only web links (http or https) can be opened. Check the address before you tap Open link, since QR codes can hide look-alike sites.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. QR Code Scanner runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is QR Code Scanner really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
