Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate an image by any angle, like 7 degrees?
Yes. Drag the angle slider anywhere from -180 to 180 degrees. Choose to expand the canvas so nothing is cut off (empty corners are transparent for PNG and WebP, white for JPG), or to crop to fit so there are no empty corners.
Will rotating reduce my image quality?
Quarter turns and flips keep every pixel. JPG and WebP are saved again at high quality, so the file size may differ slightly, and PNG stays lossless. The format never changes, except HEIC, which is saved as JPG.
Why does my photo look sideways or upside down?
Phones record how they were held in the photo's EXIF data. Toolshed reads that first, so the preview shows the picture the way most apps do, then applies your rotation. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Rotate Image runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is Rotate Image really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
