Frequently asked questions

How do I blur a face or license plate?

Choose Selected areas, then drag a box over the face or plate. You can add as many boxes as you need and move or resize them. Pick Pixelate or Solid black when you want the hidden detail to be impossible to recover.

Can a blurred area be un-blurred?

A light blur can sometimes be partly reversed, so for sensitive details raise the strength, use Pixelate, or pick Solid black, which removes the pixels completely. The edit is baked into the saved image.

Are my images uploaded, and what format are they saved in?

Nothing is uploaded: the blurring happens in your browser. Images are saved in their original format (JPG, PNG or WebP); HEIC photos are saved as JPG.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Blur Image runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Blur Image really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
