Frequently asked questions

How are non-English letters and emoji converted?

Text is encoded as UTF-8, the standard of the web. Plain English letters use one byte each, while accented letters, Hebrew, Japanese and emoji use two to four bytes. The reverse direction expects UTF-8 too.

What input formats can it decode?

Numbers separated by spaces, commas, semicolons or line breaks, with optional 0x, 0b or 0o prefixes. Binary, hex and octal can also run together without separators if every byte has its full width (8, 2 and 3 digits).

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Text to Binary runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Text to Binary really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
