Frequently asked questions

Which video formats can I convert?

You can convert MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, FLV, WMV, 3GP and MPEG files to MP4 (H.264), WebM (VP8), MOV, MKV or AVI, or pull out the sound as MP3 or M4A.

Does converting lower the quality?

Often not at all: when the streams already suit the new format (for example an MKV with H.264 going to MP4), they are copied without re-encoding in seconds. Otherwise the video is re-encoded at the quality you choose: Smaller file, Balanced or Better quality.

Which codec does WebM output use?

WebM files are made with VP8 video and Opus audio, which play in every modern browser. Encoding VP8 in the browser is slower than MP4, so allow extra time for long videos.

Is my video uploaded to a server?

No. The conversion runs in your browser with a built-in engine, so the video never leaves your device and works even with private recordings.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Video Converter runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
