Frequently asked questions
Are my voice recordings uploaded anywhere?
No. Recording and MP3/WAV conversion both happen in your browser. Takes are kept only in this tab's memory and disappear when you close or reload the page, so download the ones you want to keep.
Which format should I download?
MP3 plays everywhere and is small, so it's best for sharing. WAV is uncompressed for editing. The original (WebM/Opus in most browsers, M4A in Safari) is the smallest and needs no conversion.
How long can I record?
There is no fixed limit; long recordings only need enough memory on your device. For very long sessions, stop and download every so often so nothing is lost if the tab closes.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Voice Recorder runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is Voice Recorder really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
