Is my webcam video uploaded anywhere?
No. The recording is made and kept in your browser, and the MP4 conversion also runs on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, and the camera turns off when you stop it or leave the page.
Why WebM, and how do I get an MP4?
Most browsers record video as WebM, which plays in Chrome, Firefox and Edge and in most editors. Press Convert to MP4 to get an H.264 MP4 that also plays on iPhone, in WhatsApp and on social apps. Safari records MP4 directly.
Can I use an external webcam or microphone?
Yes. After you start the camera, every connected camera and microphone appears in the pickers. Switch between them before you press Record.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Webcam Recorder runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
