Frequently asked questions

How do I post a whole photo on Instagram without cropping?

Turn on Make it square. The short side is padded with the border colour so the full photo fits a square post, centred, with nothing cut off. Add a border width for an even frame around it.

Is the border width in pixels of my photo?

Yes. The widths and the corner radius are measured in pixels of the original image, so a 40 px border on a 4000 px photo looks thinner than on a small one. The preview is scaled to show you the real proportions.

What format are the images saved in, and are they uploaded?

Nothing is uploaded: the border is drawn in your browser. Images keep their format, except that JPG becomes PNG when you add rounded corners or a shadow, because those need transparent edges. HEIC photos are saved as JPG.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Add Border to Image runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?
