Frequently asked questions

Which fade shape should I use?

Linear works for most things. Logarithmic sounds smoother on music because your ears hear volume logarithmically. Exponential keeps the sound quiet for longer, then swells, which suits dramatic intros.

How long can a fade be?

Up to 30 seconds each, and at most half the length of the file, so a fade in and a fade out never overlap.

Which formats are supported, and is my file uploaded?

MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC and OGG keep their format; other audio is saved as MP3. The fade is applied in your browser with FFmpeg, so nothing is uploaded.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Fade In / Fade Out Audio runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Fade In / Fade Out Audio really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
