Frequently asked questions
Will boosting the volume cause distortion?
Pushing a loud file further can clip its peaks, which sounds harsh. Keep "Prevent clipping" on: a limiter holds the peaks at −1 dB while the rest gets louder. Very large boosts can still sound squashed, so preview first.
What is the difference between peak and loudness normalization?
Peak normalization raises the whole file evenly until its loudest moment reaches −1 dB, so the dynamics stay exactly the same. Loudness normalization (EBU R128, −16 LUFS) matches how loud it sounds to the level podcasts and streaming apps use, which works better for speech and for making several files sound equally loud.
Can I make the sound of a video louder?
Yes. Drop an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video: only the audio track is processed and the picture is copied without re-encoding, so quality doesn't change.
Are my files uploaded?
No. Everything runs in your browser with a local copy of FFmpeg. Your audio and video never leave your device.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Volume Booster runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
