Frequently asked questions

Why use multiple shadow layers?

Several subtle shadows look more natural than one heavy one. Layering small blurs at increasing distances mimics real light and gives smoother depth.

What does inset do?

An inset shadow is drawn inside the box instead of outside, which is useful for pressed buttons, inputs and inner glows.

Can I make a text shadow too?

Yes. Switch to Text shadow to preview and copy a text-shadow declaration. Spread and inset do not exist for text, so those controls are hidden.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. CSS Box Shadow Generator runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is CSS Box Shadow Generator really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
