Frequently asked questions
What does the combined text look like?
It starts with a tree of the included files, followed by each file under a "## path" heading in a fenced code block tagged with its language. This layout helps the AI see the project structure and know which file each piece of code comes from.
Which files are left out?
Anything matching the ignore list (by default dependency, build and version-control folders, lock files, images, media and fonts), files larger than the size limit, and binary files. The skipped files are listed under the result.
How accurate is the token count?
It is an estimate: characters divided by four, a common rule of thumb for English text and code. Real counts vary by model and language, so leave some room below your model's context limit.
Are my files uploaded?
No. The files are read and combined in your browser on your device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for private code.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Files to Prompt runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
