Frequently asked questions
How do I use regular expressions?
Turn on Regular expression and write a JavaScript pattern. In the replacement use $1, $2 for capture groups, $& for the whole match, and \n or \t for a new line or tab. Invalid patterns show an error instead of breaking the page.
Can I undo a replacement?
Yes. Undo last replace restores the text from before your most recent replacement, and you can press it repeatedly to step back further.
What does Whole word do?
It only matches the search term when it stands alone, so cat matches cat but not concatenate. It works with accented letters and other scripts such as Hebrew and Japanese.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Find and Replace runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
