Frequently asked questions

Why convert a PDF to Markdown before giving it to ChatGPT or Claude?

Markdown keeps the structure (headings, lists, tables) as plain text, so the AI understands which parts belong together, and it uses fewer tokens than a raw PDF upload. It also lets you check and trim the text before you send it.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

No. A scan is a picture of a page with no text inside. Run it through our OCR PDF tool first to add a text layer, then convert the result here.

How accurate is the structure?

Headings are found from larger font sizes, paragraphs from line spacing, and lists from bullet or number markers. Simple tables become Markdown tables. Multi-column pages and complex tables may need a little tidying.

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The PDF is read by your browser on your device, and the Markdown is created there too. Nothing is sent to a server.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. PDF to Markdown runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
