Frequently asked questions
How do I pixelate a face or license plate?
Choose Selected areas and drag a box over the face or plate; add as many boxes as you need. Use a large block size: the bigger the blocks, the less detail is left to recognise.
What block size should I use?
The block size is the width of each square in pixels of your original image. 8 to 16 px gives a light mosaic, 30 px and more makes faces and text unreadable on a typical phone photo. The preview shows the effect on the first image.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Pixelation runs in your browser on your device, and the images are saved in their original format (HEIC photos as JPG).
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Pixelate Image runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is Pixelate Image really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
