Frequently asked questions

Does rotating a video reduce its quality?

Not for plain turns of MP4 and MOV files: only the rotation flag that players read is changed, so the picture is untouched and it takes seconds. Flips, and WebM or MKV files, have to be re-encoded; that is done at high quality, but it takes longer.

My phone video plays sideways. Can I fix it?

Yes. Press Rotate left or Rotate right until the preview looks right, then save. Any rotation your phone already stored is taken into account, so the result plays upright everywhere.

Which formats can I rotate, and is my video uploaded?

MP4, MOV, M4V, WebM and MKV. The rotated file keeps the original format. Everything runs in your browser, so the video is never uploaded.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Rotate Video runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Rotate Video really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
