Frequently asked questions

How are accents, Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew handled?

Accents are removed (é becomes e, ß becomes ss) and Cyrillic, Greek and Hebrew letters are converted to a simple Latin spelling. Turn on “Keep non-Latin letters” to leave them as typed. Japanese and Chinese characters have no automatic reading, so they are dropped unless you keep non-Latin letters.

How long should a URL slug be?

Short and readable is best: usually three to six words. Set a maximum length and the slug is cut at the last whole word instead of in the middle of one.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Slug Generator runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Slug Generator really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.

Does it work offline?

Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
