Frequently asked questions
How accurate is this online tuner?
It measures pitch to a fraction of a cent and calls a note in tune within ±5 cents, which is tighter than most ears can hear. Play one string at a time in a quiet room for the steadiest reading.
What does the A4 reference do?
It sets the pitch of A above middle C. 440 Hz is the standard; some orchestras tune to 442 Hz and some musicians prefer 432 Hz. Every note is measured against the reference you choose.
Is my microphone audio recorded or uploaded?
No. The sound is analysed live in your browser and never recorded, stored or sent anywhere. The microphone turns off when you press Stop tuner or leave the page.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Online Tuner runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is Online Tuner really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
