Frequently asked questions
How does the song key finder work?
It measures how much of each of the twelve notes is in the music and compares that with typical major and minor key profiles (the Krumhansl–Schmuckler method). The closest match wins, and the other likely keys are listed too. A song that changes key partway through shows its most common key.
What is the Camelot code?
The Camelot wheel numbers every key from 1 to 12, with A for minor and B for major. Keys with the same number, or a neighbouring number on the same letter, mix well together, which is why DJs use it. A minor and C major share 8.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Song Key Finder runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is Song Key Finder really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
Does it work offline?
Once the page has loaded, processing happens locally, so it keeps working even if your connection drops.
