How to use White Noise Generator
Press Play
White noise starts at once. The sound is generated live on your device, so there's nothing to download and it never repeats noticeably.
Mix your sound
Raise pink or brown noise for a softer, deeper hiss, or blend in rain, ocean waves or a fan. Each slider sets its own volume.
Set a sleep timer
Pick 15 minutes to 8 hours. The sound fades out over the last minute and stops, even if the tab is in the background.

Frequently asked questions
What's the difference between white, pink and brown noise?
White noise has equal energy at every frequency and sounds like a bright hiss. Pink noise drops 3 dB per octave, so it sounds softer and more balanced, like steady rain. Brown noise drops 6 dB per octave and sounds like a deep rumble or distant waterfall. Many people find pink or brown more pleasant for sleep.
Can white noise help me sleep or focus?
Steady noise masks sudden sounds such as traffic, voices or a snoring partner, which helps many people fall asleep and concentrate. Keep the volume moderate, especially for babies: place the device away from the crib and well below a shower's loudness.
Will it keep playing if I switch tabs or lock my screen?
It keeps playing in a background tab and when the screen is dimmed on a computer. Phones may pause web audio when locked, so keep the browser open in the foreground there. The sleep timer runs on the audio clock, so the fade-out stays on time.
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. White Noise Generator runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.
Is there a file size limit?
No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.
Is White Noise Generator really free?
Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
