How to use Online Piano

  1. Play the keys

Click or tap the keys, or use your computer keyboard: the A row plays white keys and the row above plays black keys. Several fingers play chords.

  2. Change octave and sustain

Use − and + (or Z and X) to move up and down the piano, and turn on the sustain pedal to let notes ring after you lift your fingers.

  3. Record and play back

Press Record, play a short melody, then Stop. Play back replays it with the keys lighting up, so you can practise or check what you played.

Frequently asked questions

Can I play the piano with my computer keyboard?

Yes. A, S, D, F, G, H, J and K play the white keys and W, E, T, Y and U the black keys, like a piano seen from above. Z and X shift the octave. Keys are matched by position, so it works on AZERTY and QWERTZ keyboards too.

Does it work on phones and tablets?

Yes. Each finger plays its own note, so you can play chords, and sliding a finger glides across the keys. Turn your phone sideways for bigger keys.

Why can't I hear anything?

Browsers only allow sound after you touch the page, so the first key press starts the audio. Check that your device isn't muted (on iPhone, the silent switch also mutes web audio). The sound is generated on your device; nothing is downloaded or uploaded.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Online Piano runs entirely in your browser. Your files are processed on your device and are never sent to a server.

Is there a file size limit?

No fixed limit. The only limit is your device's memory. Very large files work best in a desktop browser.

Is Online Piano really free?

Yes. There's no account and no watermark. A short optional ad, or a 20-second wait, unlocks each download. That's how we keep it free.
