Frequently asked questions

What happens to italics, colours and positions?

Bold, italic and underline are kept both ways. SRT colour tags (<font>) and {\an8} position codes have no WebVTT equivalent and are removed. From VTT to SRT, speaker tags become "Name: " and cue settings such as position or alignment are dropped, because SRT has no place for them.

How do I fix subtitles that are out of sync?

Enter a time shift: a positive number of seconds delays every subtitle, a negative one shows them earlier. You can also keep the same format (SRT to SRT) just to re-time a file. Subtitles shifted before 0:00 are removed.

Why convert SRT to VTT?

Web players and the HTML5 <track> element only read WebVTT, while most downloads and editing tools use SRT. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so your subtitle files are never uploaded.
